Terms of Service
Last updated: July 20, 2026
Acceptance
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the monica Chrome extension (“the extension”). By installing or using the extension, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, uninstall the extension.
The service
The extension replaces Chrome’s new tab with a personal dashboard and provides bookmarks (an iOS-style home screen), clock, weather, a Google apps launcher, and related features. There is no developer-operated middleman server; data is stored only in your browser and, when you explicitly connect it, in your own Google Drive appDataFolder.
License
The extension’s source code is released under the MIT License. Source-code terms are set out in the LICENSE file in the repository. These Terms supplement the end-user conditions for using the installed extension.
Your responsibilities
When using the extension, you are responsible for:
- Backing up and managing bookmarks, settings, wallpapers, and other data you store in the extension
- Safeguarding your Google account credentials if you sign in, and complying with Google’s terms and privacy policy
- Providing the devices and network needed to use the extension and any connected services
Prohibited use
- Using the extension for unlawful purposes or in ways that violate public order
- Abusing the extension, Google APIs, Open-Meteo, or other external services, imposing unreasonable load, or interfering with their operation
- Infringing others’ rights or interests, or engaging in conduct likely to do so
Third-party services
The extension may optionally use Google (authentication and Drive sync) and Open-Meteo (weather). Those services are governed by their own terms and policies. The developers do not warrant the availability, content, or pricing of third-party services.
Disclaimer
The extension is provided “as is.” The developers make no warranties, express or implied, regarding accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose, or continued availability. The same applies to sync delays or omissions, data loss, third-party API outages, and breakage caused by browser or OS changes.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the developers are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from use or inability to use the extension (including data loss, lost profits, or business interruption). Because the extension is provided free of charge, any damages that cannot be disclaimed are limited to zero.
Changes to these Terms
The developers may update these Terms as needed. Material changes will be posted on this site. Continued use of the extension after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Japan. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Tokyo District Court as the court of first instance.
Privacy
How personal data and Google user data are handled is described in the separate Privacy Policy. Privacy Policy
